What information does my family law attorney need to know?

1. How long you have been married.

2. How many children you have and what are their ages.

3. What is the living situation of you, your spouse, and your children.

4. Information supporting your contentions regarding child custody and/or child support.

5. Information concerning you and your spouse’s financial situation.

6. Information supporting your contentions regarding spousal support (alimony).




How much does a family lawyer/divorce cost?

Family law matters are handled on an hourly basis. Generally our office charges the hourly rate of $250.00 an hour for the services of a family law attorney. This is in addition to the filing fees (usually approximately $320.00 for the initial pleading, plus services fees, OSC Fees, and miscellaneous fees, if applicable).



Necessary Family Law Documents

What documents should I bring to my family law attorney consultation?

1. A copy of any summons, petition, OSC or other legal documents or pleadings filed or served on you.

2. Copies of pay stubs for you and your spouse for the last few months.

3. Copies of the last few years tax returns for you and your spouse.

4. Copies of documentation regarding your relevant expenses.

5. Copies of any (pre-nuptial/post-nuptial) written agreements by and between you and your spouse.

6. An itemization of your assets and liabilities and relevant documentation to support any claims or contentions that you may have in the rights of the assets or any information or documents which may support a claim or contention of separate liability to the debts of your spouse.
