How Do I Prepare for a Consultation with an Estate Planning/Probate Lawyer?
Below are some of the common documents and information you will need for a proper wills, trusts, or probate law consultation with an estate planning/ probate lawyer:
1. Basic information about your spouse and children (including ex-spouse if applicable) or other family members or prospective beneficiaries.
2. Present will or trust if any.
3.An outline of your testamentary plan including a list of guardians, list of beneficiaries, and testamentary dispositions.
4. Copies of deeds to all real estate.
5. Financial information including recent tax returns, real estate, securities, insurance, pension and retirement benefits (including 401k & IRA), valuable personal property, business interests (companies you own including partnerships, LLC’s, corporations, sole proprietorships, minority interests, etc.), other assets and liabilities.
6. Death Certificate for probate matters.
